Caretakers and fellow travelers
One more day! Tomorrow is Amy’s last day of radiation treatments, after tomorrow, she’ll have had 28 days of radiation aimed at killing or reducing the cancerous tumor on her pancreas. She has come to know the staff operating Linac 4 at the UW Hospital and while she wont miss the treatments, she will miss those kind, caring people. She brought a bag full of ‘Hugs’ & ‘Kisses’ (the Hershey variety) for them to share and attached a short note letting them know how much she has appreciated their care & kind words of support/encouragement. Today, I overheard one of the nurses tell Amy that she was impressed by her spirit because through the treatments, day by day, no matter if it was a good day or a bad one, she always had a smile. Yesterday, I heard her Radiological Oncologist tell her that she’s been an encouragement to him and that he has never seen a patient approach treatment with such tenacity as she has shown (and this from a man who is in his mid 50’s and as a veteran in his field, has seen patients at their best & worst). Going in for treatment day after day, Amy (and I) have come to recognize people as they too come for treatment of their cancer; the older lady in her 80’s who looks so frail, but smiled so big when Hope asked what her name was, the older couple who looked to be in their early 70’s and he pampered her with tenderness and the 34 year old mother of two boys who has been battling brain cancer since 2004, her face swollen from the treatments and the steroids, she was in a wheelchair because she had no strength to walk. Although we never did ask names or trade stories with most, they all came to Linac 4, all from different places, all from different backgrounds, all with a common thread & a battle to wage.
Dear Heavenly Father, I would ask that you shower blessings upon the nurses, technicians and doctors that have taken care of Amy through this phase of her treatment. I do not know how they can see these people, the pain they’re in and how sick they are without it affecting them in some way, they truly reflect your hand of mercy. I would ask that you grant them the strength and courage they need and to keep from becoming hardened and to abundantly bless them with kindness and love so that it might overflow into those under their care. I would pray too for the all of the others that Amy & I have seen that are dealing with cancer and their families as well. Please grant them strength to make it through, courage to face the difficult times and peace to know that you are with them.
One last reminder, tomorrow is PURPLE day. If you are so lead, please wear something purple in support for Amy’s last day of treatments. I am praying that we can realize support in excess of 400 people, but the only way we can tell is if you let us know. Please either enter a comment into the BLOG, or contact us by phone or email (for those of you who know). Thank you in advance!

Hi guys,
I am so computer illiterate I cannot for the life of me figure out how to respond to your blog! Oh well, I did find your email address on the trustee committee minutes:) Just to let you know, tomorrow my coworker and I will be wearing purple pants and a top that has purple critters on it. So glad you are finished with this stage. Praying the tumor will be smaller than they had ever hoped for and surgery will be successful!!! You guys are such a testimony just watching you go through this. By GODS grace you will get through!!
Love, Theresa (& Butch)

Vince and Amy,
I have told the ladies at work, the very people I had hoped Amy would sub. for this year, will be in purple. Some of the parents who have heard me tell people about purple day also said would be happy to sport the color purple.
God Bless you both and your family.

Dear Vince & Amy;
Just wanted to let you know that we will be wearing our purple tomorrow, celebrating your last day of radiation. Through all your updates Vince, I must say you and Amy are two very courageous people. You have done a wonderful job on keeping us up to date on Amy's condition, and the courage you have Amy to go in everyday for your treatments. Please continue to keep us informed how everything is going. There has'nt been a day go by that I haven't thought of you since we heard about the cancer. I pray for you every morning and night, that God will take care of you.
Love Dick & Joan

Amy,
When I wrote to you last night, I hadn't been up to date on reading your blog. I took the time to do so today. Yesterday was a special day for me (you'll know if you look in April's newsletter). When I started to get caught up on my reading today, I was at first upset that I missed wearing purple on April 25th. As I read further though, I was greatly relieved to find that I was able to support you by wearing purple today which I already had on before I started to read. Keara is in the bathtub (still - 2 hours-loves her baths!) but we'll be putting purple on her when she finally emerges a "purple raisin" from so much soaking. We continue to pray for you nightly during our bedtime prayers. We are so very glad you are done with this stage of your treatments and able to move onto the next stage soon. We are also so glad Vince is taking the time and energy to post your updates. What a blessing you two are to so many others through this blog. God Bless you both! We love you!

Purple is not a problem in the Marley household, as all of us girls love the color, and the boys, well, GO VIKINGS!!!! So, you can add 5 to your tally. We will continue to pray for you, not only for a full recovery, but because you give us strength as well.
On another note, you need to go into Aldi as much as you can today, Friday, and Saturday and bug the heck out of Jerry!!! He starts at the Aldi in Onalaska on Monday. I can't believe that he will be starting there already. He will be doing some commuting and will also be staying with his brother that lives near Trempealeau. I'll keep you posted on our house hunt and all that other stuff.
Take care of yourself, and prayers will abound from the Marley household for you and your family.
Love,
Kari
