A year in the life

One year ago tomorrow, late in the afternoon, I sat in a small recovery room waiting for Amy to come out of the anesthetic. Two weeks earlier, we had made the decision and switched doctors/hospitals. We were unhappy with the path the other surgeon wanted to take and ultimately lost confidence in him. So, after meeting earlier in the week with the new doctor/surgeon, he wanted Amy to have yet another ERCP (where they put a tube with a camera down her throat to look in her stomach and beyond). She had one previously at the other hospital, but I’m sure the new doctor wanted updated pictures and to have their specialist take a look for himself. So, here I was, sitting quietly in this rather small room with three walls and a curtain. To keep the noise down and let Amy sleep, I kept the T.V. off and alternated from reading the paper to playing an electronic version of Yahtzee. The doctor poked his head in several times to check on Amy, but as she was still sleeping, he left. Eventually Amy started coming around and she drifted in and out for about the next 30 minutes or so. Once she was more fully awake, she asked for some water, but the nurse only gave her ice chips until the doctor could ok anything more. We may have waited for another 30 to 45 minutes until the doctor came back around. He proceeded to tell us about the procedure, and that he did see some obstruction of the bile duct, rather that it looked like the opening was being pulled or stretched to the side. He proceeded to tell us that he was able to extract a cell sample from the tumor and that preliminary results looks to him that the tumor was cancerous. And so on February 28th 2006, began Amy’s 8 month and 16 day journey with Pancreatic Cancer.
Please, if you can remember, take a moment today and think of a time when Amy made you laugh! I guarantee you won’t be able to do it without smiling!
And Amy will be smiling down as well.

For the love of Amy - V

Vince and my wonderful nieces and nephews-
I rememeber a time when I had come up to spend time with you guys and it was Amy's 36th Birthday and you were living on Mulberry. Well Amy was potty training Maddy (due to the fact of course I did not have the patience for it) and she had gone down stairs to get some laundry and I went down the stairs very very quietly and I scared the crap out of her. In fact I do believe that I made her pee her pants.

God we had a good time together no matter what we did.

I miss her so much. I thought that as the months went by it would get easier but I don't think so. I know that she is up there watching over all of us. But I of course am still not ready to let her go.

Love all of you, Bridge

Vince(Amy), Thanks for allowing, Randy+I, to be just a small
part of those last wks./days/moments, w/you+Amy! Randy+I've said it to each other often...we wouldn't trade it for , anything! Well, yes, just one thing..... One more,"good" day w/Amy; we'd talked/ planned to get- away to, Janice's "haven" in, Galena, Ill. , to scrapbook/ write down her dreams/goals for you/kids,etc.
xo Much Love/Prayers!
denise;)

Vince,
I hope you'll allow us to share memories in a
"popcorn" fashion ,so-to-speak,ie. in between
tears/ smiles.
Another fond memory; usually when Amy would "call", she'd always ask me the same 2 questions.
"What do you know?" and "Tell me about your kids." Amy and I love children/teaching!!....and she
always loved our children as her own! We frequently would finish our conversation by," sharing
"Roby/Vinny stories" meaning about the funny things they'd said/done for that day!****
xo Love/prayers
denise;)
***P.S. " Aunt Amy, while Mom was driving me to school this am. , she reminded me that it was just a yr. ago..... Mom misses you, alot! :( So, we just hug her alot! I tried to get, Mom to laugh a little; so I asked her if, you might be eating fried chix in heaven, w/Abraham? (She told me you really love your Momma's homemade fried chix!) She just about choked, but it worked ....she laughed! ;) xo's Aunt Amy, say hi to Nana +our Baby."

Hi Vince,

I have to share the day that Amy came out to our house for a visit in September. I took her for a 'ride' on the bobcat around the property and when we got back to the South end of the house she wanted to know where we ladies had gathered for our campfire the previous Saturday. So I drove around that direction and remembered something else I wanted to show her so headed back out towards the woods. What I didn't pay attention to was the clothesline as I drove under it. David had built a wall around the back portion of the bobcat and it caught on the lines. I didn't realize it was caught at first until I saw Amy leaning over laughing! I had to back up and it took both of us to get the lines disentangled and flipped over the sides. THEN, we had lunch and while looking out the patio window we both noticed that one of the posts was more than leaning to the side. We'd actually managed to bend the pole which ultimately had to be replaced. That got us another laugh. It was the last day I remember Amy actually looking and feeling good. Monday, September 18, 2006. I do miss her and consider myself blessed to have known her even though for a short period of time!

hi vince,
as i read these stories, i can't help but smile and remember the many fun times that we had. i will name a few....amy always made me feel welcome at your apartment. i would come over a lot when kevin was at class or gone because i guess i just didn't like sitting at our place by myself. we would always watch days and complain about how dumb it was, but we kept right on watching. something else i remember about your apartment is that amy always had different bible verses written up on the fridge, always a reminder of who her King was. kevin and i still tell our kids how we got to go to chuckee cheeses afterhours with you and amy!!!! another memory is when we only had daniel and we came up to visit you guys - he and vinnie were about the same age. well, we made breakfast that morning and i think together we all ate like 40-50 sausages - they were so good and amy just kept fryin' em up! and one more story is when you, amy and the 4 kids surprised kevin on his 30th birthday - to travel all that way and the genuine look on amy's face when kevin saw you guys was priceless - she was so happy to be our friend and to be there for us on a special time - and we were just as happy that you all were there....
thanks for the memories 'girlfriend'...

love, paula
